Well I expect most of you know the great news already from wonderful Uncle Grunc's comment on the previous post, but I thought I'd make it official by putting it into its very own post, because this is just the best news I have ever heard!!!

EMILY IS OFF THE VENTILATOR AND BREATHING FOR HERSELF WITH HER NEW LUNGS!!!

This is what we have all been waiting to hear and means that our awesome Emily is making great progress! I know from other people who have gone through double lung transplants, that their first breath with their new lungs is like no other they have ever experienced. I'm so very happy that finally Emily has had the chance to experience this.

I think we all know just how determined and focussed Emily is and I am sure that these qualities are going to be very significant over the coming days and weeks as she works on gradually getting her strength back and re-learning how to do all the things that she hasn't been able to do for so long. There may still be some tricky times ahead as recovery from an operation this huge takes months, but I know that with Emily's strength of character and zest for life, she will tackle every hurdle head on and with determination.

Even when Emily was struggling so much during the months before her transplant, she still managed to have plenty of inner bounce and sparkle. With a new pair of puffers I reckon there will be stopping her! I won't be able to see her for a few months unfortunately (due to cross-infection rules) but just knowing she has had her transplant and that she is now off the ventilator has already made my year, as it has done for so many other people.

Once again I'd like everyone to remember the family who gave Emily this gift and in doing so have given her life itself and a future. Emily, her family and friends can never thank them enough.

Thanks to everyone who has wished me well too. I had my operation this afternoon but was prepared to have a stand-up fight if I was prevented from getting to a computer to post this blog, seeing as I've waited two years to be able to pass on such positive news! I am doing fine though and will continue to update when there is more news. However I'm sure that as soon as Emily is a bit stronger and gets near to a computer she will be taking over the job again and I know we will all be so happy when that happens!

Thank you Emmie! It is the most brilliant news! Finally Em can breathe with two new, healthy lungs :D But of course, there is a family somewhere daling with a terrible loss. I hope they know that, through making that difficult decision, they have so drastically improved (and actually saved) a wonderful person's life, and that so many people are grateful.

It's good to hear you're also doing well, I hope that continues! It's a shame you and Em won't be able to see each other for a while, but if it helps then it must be worth it :)

Saw Em on Watchdog tonight - my mum sent me a text to say that Em should get a job in television! It was a very moving piece.

Still sending to lots of love to the Thackrays, and to you :) xxx

Emily are posting a card tomorrow so be with you soon hoepfully :D

Emma hope all goes ok for you and that you will be home soon too.

Just the best news ever! At last you have some new sparkly lungs to help you in your battle to save mankind (really is meant quite sincerely). So so pleased Em. Again, we say thank you to the family that during such a difficult time, were so brave and generous, to give this gift to such a wonderful person. Huge hugs to all of the family and A. Em, like many others (mainly thanks to Uncle Grunc) saw you on Watchdog tonight, as has been said earlier it was a very moving piece.

Emmie, thank you so much for keeping us updated, especially so quickly after surgery! I hope you also continue to do well.

Lots and lots of love to all,
Alice (and the rest of the thompsons, although they probably don't want credit for this poorly written blog!)

I am so glad I have this blog to go to to find-out how Emily is getting on...all my love to her, Adam, and the Thackray family. I can't believe I saw Em just before Christmas and this has happened since - I got my wish for 2007 very early in the year.

For those of you looking at the time I sent this, I'm not an insomniac, I'm working night shifts helping ladies have their babies!

We too watched Watchdog - very moving piece. Lucy sat waving at the screen!

Ladies,
what a fantastic pair you are - such courage. Emma, my ongoing best wishes to you for a speedy recovery. How admirable to think of updating on Emily's progress when you yourself just underwent surgery. I am bowled over by such selflessness! So get well very very soon.
Wonderful wonderful news about Emily finally breathing unaided and unabetted!! What a great gift she has been given. I know none of us will ever forget the courageous family who made this possible. Another totally selfless act. May they find peace of mind after their terrible loss.
May this year restore perfect health to all those currently unwell.
as always, Janet
